Max Gilardi thought he had explained a private decision. The response from millions of viewers showed him it was anything but private. Hotdiggedydemon’s assisted death plan is now off the table, at least for the moment, after the YouTube animator said reactions from fans, friends and relatives “snapped me back to reality.”

Gilardi, who has more than 2.1 million YouTube subscribers, announced on August 1 that he intended to seek an assisted death in Switzerland. He tied the decision to worsening health, chronic pain and financial pressure. He had not applied to a Swiss organization or scheduled a date.

By August 2, he was already reconsidering. Gilardi wrote on X that he had not been thinking clearly, then confirmed during a follow-up livestream that he had changed his mind within 48 hours.
