The GTA 6 release date remains November 19, 2026, according to publisher Take-Two Interactive, which has again assured investors that Rockstar Games’ enormously anticipated sequel is on schedule. The confirmation matters because this is not merely another release on the calendar. Take-Two expects it to power a major financial leap, while millions of players are planning their own considerably less formal version of annual leave.
Rockstar’s official website still lists the same launch date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC release date has been announced. The company’s support page says digital preloading and fulfillment of physical orders are expected to begin November 12, one week before launch.
When will the extended GTA 6 presentation air?
The next official presentation, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, will premiere on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on August 27. It will remain exclusive to the streaming service for six hours before appearing on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the official GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET.
That means Netflix has a six-hour exclusivity window. The presentation itself is not six hours long, an important distinction for anyone wondering whether Rockstar had produced the video game equivalent of a very demanding miniseries.
Take-Two said it believes the presentation will increase “consumers’ passion and anticipation” before the November launch. The arrangement also gives Netflix an appointment-viewing event built around one of entertainment’s largest franchises, while Rockstar can still distribute the footage freely later that evening.
Chief executive Strauss Zelnick had previously told Variety, “It’s November 19, 2026,” while promising more information from Rockstar during the summer. At the iicon conference in April, he predicted that “a lot of people will be calling in sick on November 19.” Employers have now received fair warning.
How strong are GTA 6 preorders?
Take-Two described the game’s preorder campaign as having an “exceptional start,” but it did not disclose the number of copies ordered or the money collected. Preorders opened at midnight on June 25.
Newzoo estimated that digital preorders generated about $180 million during the first week across six major markets:
- The United States
- Britain
- France
- Germany
- Italy
- Spain
That estimate does not represent worldwide demand, physical orders or an official figure from Take-Two. Newzoo also projected between 37 million and 51 million launch-week sales, potentially producing $3.25 billion to $5.2 billion in revenue. Those are analyst projections rather than company guidance, and the missing unit count remains the more meaningful detail.
Preorder spending, net bookings, cash collection and recognized accounting revenue are also not interchangeable. Take-Two defines net bookings broadly, covering products and services including digital sales, physically sold-in games, licensing, merchandise, advertising and publisher incentives. It is therefore not the same measure as revenue recognized under generally accepted accounting principles.
Why Take-Two is confident about the launch
Take-Two reported what it called “excellent” results for the first quarter of its 2027 financial year. Quarterly net bookings reached $1.39 billion, slightly above its forecast range of $1.32 billion to $1.37 billion.
Grand Theft Auto once again exceeded the company’s expectations. GTA 5 has now sold more than 230 million copies worldwide, making it the second-best-selling video game ever behind Minecraft, which has passed 400 million. Rockstar says the wider Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold more than 470 million units.
Spending on recurring purchases across the series, including microtransactions, increased 3%. That continued engagement helps explain why Take-Two can approach the next launch with unusual confidence: GTA VI is arriving after more than a decade in which its predecessor remained both culturally visible and financially productive.
The stakes are personal for players as well as financial for the publisher. Fans have spent years studying trailers, settings and character details, while Rockstar has released information at a deliberately measured pace. The August presentation should finally give that audience something more substantial than another round of frame-by-frame speculation.
NBA 2K also strengthened the quarter
GTA was not the only franchise contributing to Take-Two’s results. Recurrent consumer spending for NBA 2K increased 7%, driven by in-game purchases and other live-service activity.
Take-Two said NBA 2K26 delivered an “outstanding” performance and completed a record year for the series. The game has sold in more than 12 million units, a 9% increase compared with NBA 2K25.
The publisher credited developer Visual Concepts with finding new ways to keep players engaged, adding that live-service operations remain central to the franchise’s long-term performance. NBA 2K27 is scheduled for release in September.
Take-Two also pointed to continued support for Borderlands 4, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII and WWE 2K26, saying new content improved player engagement and sentiment. It did not provide firm sales or spending figures for those titles.
What GTA 6 means for Take-Two’s financial year
Take-Two expects its current financial year to become an “inflection point” that establishes a foundation for significantly higher performance. In less corporate language, the company expects GTA VI to change the scale of its business.
It maintained its full-year net bookings forecast of $8 billion to $8.2 billion. At the midpoint, that would represent approximately 20% growth over the 2026 financial year, with the November release expected to provide most of the increase.
The company anticipates the following approximate contribution by publishing label:
- Rockstar Games: 37%
- Zynga: 34%
- 2K: 29%
Several announced Take-Two projects still lack firm release dates, including PGA Tour 2K27, WWE 2K27, Judas, Project Ethos and the next BioShock.
For now, there is no credible reporting that conflicts with the November 19 date. The next meaningful test comes on August 27, when Rockstar moves from carefully rationed promotion to a longer look at the game expected to define Take-Two’s year and, for many players, its entire release calendar.
