The The Diplomat Season 4 trailer puts Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler back in the political hot seat, dealing with a damaged alliance, a collapsing marriage and a secret operation involving Russia’s most powerful weapon. Apparently, one major crisis was considered insufficient.
The new season follows the events of Season 3, with Kate confronting the fallout from covert action ordered by President Grace Penn, played by Allison Janney, and Vice President Hal Wyler, played by Rufus Sewell. Their scheme targeted both the Russian and British governments, leaving Kate to prevent the consequences from escalating into war.
How close does Kate Wyler come to war?
A catastrophic incident destroys the fragile peace Kate negotiated between the United States and the United Kingdom. At the same time, her already unstable marriage to Hal continues to deteriorate.
The official synopsis says Grace and Hal conspired to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon, sending the United States toward open conflict. Kate must contain the international damage while also trying to rescue her personal life, because diplomacy apparently leaves plenty of room for couples counselling.
She also forms an uneasy partnership with Todd, played by Bradley Whitford. The pair unite against the Grace-Hal alliance, which threatens to overturn the balance of power both abroad and inside the White House.
