The prospect of Dave Bautista as Kratos has moved beyond internet wish-casting, but not by much. The former wrestler and Guardians of the Galaxy actor is reportedly in early negotiations to replace Ryan Hurst in Prime Video’s God of War adaptation after Hurst suffered a serious bicep injury.

As of August 4, Amazon MGM Studios, Prime Video and Sony Pictures Television had not confirmed a deal. Bautista has also made no public comment, leaving the series with a potential new lead but no official announcement.

Why Ryan Hurst left the role

Hurst, who plays Mentor in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, tore a bicep while performing a stunt in late June. Variety, TheWrap, GameSpot and Game Informer all reported that the injury forced him to leave the production. TMZ reported that he required surgery.
