After a pause, Delevingne asked: “Am I meant to comment?”
She then said jealousy appeared to be a major factor, but suggested the timing had often been misunderstood.
“I think he was pretty driven crazy by jealousy. I suppose nothing was happening at that point,” she said. “Later, after they divorced, it had I suppose.”
Asked more broadly about the nature of the relationship, Delevingne said: “We were close for a long time and then when they were going through the divorce, yeah, we were entangled, I suppose, but she was also entangled with other people.”
How did London Fields connect them?
Delevingne said the connection developed around the film London Fields, which involved Heard and also featured Depp. The movie, based on the Martin Amis novel, had its own messy path to release, but apparently that was not enough drama for everyone involved.
Heard and Delevingne were first said to have become close around 2014. By September 2016, reports claimed they were sharing a hotel room and were romantically involved, after Heard had filed for divorce from Depp but before the divorce was finalized.
Delevingne’s comments now put her own voice on a rumor that had been repeatedly dragged into public view, particularly during the legal battles between Heard and Depp. Her wording was cautious, but not especially mysterious: she described an “entanglement,” acknowledged closeness, and indicated that any romantic involvement came later than Depp had allegedly feared.
