The most closely watched player in LeBron James free agency apparently has no inside information, or is very good at pretending. Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James says he does not know where his father will play next season, even as teams, reporters and stray YouTube listings turn the wait into a daily online investigation.
The younger James, who was also LeBron’s Lakers teammate, addressed the question during a video with streamer Biggy22x. The conversation began with a request for Bronny to offer some encouragement to younger viewers, but inevitably shifted to the subject dominating the NBA offseason.
What did Bronny James say about Golden State?
Biggy22x asked the 21-year-old directly whether LeBron would join the Golden State Warriors. Bronny laughed and gave away nothing.
“Man, I don’t know where he’s going,” he said. “That would be crazy if he did.”
Pro Football Network independently reported the exchange, including Bronny’s reaction to the possibility of his father joining Stephen Curry in Golden State. His answer did not rule anything in or out, which is convenient because almost nobody appears willing to do that yet.
Golden State has been connected to LeBron, but reporting does not establish the Warriors as an unquestioned favorite. The more defensible conclusion is that the field remains unusually broad.
One part of the situation is settled. NBA.com and the Associated Press reported that LeBron informed the Lakers he would play elsewhere in 2026-27. His destination, contract and timetable remain unresolved.
Which teams are involved in LeBron’s decision?
Early speculation frequently centered on the Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat. CBS Sports later described a much larger market, reporting that agent Rich Paul said at least 10 teams had some level of involvement.
That wider group included:
- Denver Nuggets
- Minnesota Timberwolves
- San Antonio Spurs
- New York Knicks
- Boston Celtics
- Dallas Mavericks
NBC Sports reported that Paul had publicly discussed Cleveland, Miami, Philadelphia, Minnesota and Denver. That does not mean every club has made the same kind of offer, or that each is equally likely to sign James. It does show why reducing the process to a neat four-team race is premature.
Miami briefly added another burst of confusion when a team YouTube listing appeared under the title “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference | July 27, 2026.” A Heat spokesperson told reporter Anthony Chiang that the item had been published by mistake and had “currently no validity.”
In other words, it was a digital placeholder, not a signing announcement. In a quieter offseason, that explanation might have ended the matter immediately. With LeBron unsigned, it instead became another artifact for fans to examine.
Why is LeBron James taking his time?
James has said the decision affects more than his own basketball career. He explained that his nearly 12-year-old daughter was carrying considerable weight in the family’s discussions. According to his account, he pulled her aside over the Fourth of July holiday to talk about his future.
That family context helps explain why Bronny may genuinely lack a final answer. It also makes the public guessing game more complicated than a simple comparison of rosters and salaries.
Paul has reinforced that there is no deadline being imposed from outside. He told UPI that the decision was “not going to be rushed.” He has also said publicly that he does not know where James will land.
Naturally, some observers will assume the agent and the eldest son know more than they are saying. There is no evidence in the available reporting that either has been given a final destination to conceal. For now, their stated position is the same: the choice has not been made, or at least has not been shared.
How does the delay affect interested teams?
The wait is not merely producing social media speculation. It has practical consequences for front offices trying to complete their rosters.
The Northeast Times reported later on July 23 that Philadelphia was still waiting and did not know when James would decide. Any interested team must balance the chance to sign one of basketball’s most accomplished players against the risk of losing other options while cap space, exceptions and roster spots disappear.
The financial possibilities are also unusually flexible. ESPN previously calculated that James was eligible for a contract starting at $58.1 million. CBS Sports reported that his eventual agreement could instead involve part of a midlevel exception or even the veteran minimum, depending on the destination and the structure required to make a move work.
That range gives James access to teams that could not simply offer a conventional maximum contract. It also makes the process harder to forecast through salary-cap logic alone, a tool that normally brings at least a small amount of order to free agency.
What would LeBron bring in his 24th season?
James is preparing to enter an NBA-record 24th season after becoming the first player to complete 23. In 2025-26, he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game. The Lakers reached the second round of the playoffs before being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Those numbers explain why so many teams are willing to wait, despite the uncertainty. James is no longer producing at his statistical peak, but he remains a high-level contributor with enough control over his next contract to reshape a contender’s plans.
As of later on July 23, no destination had been confirmed. Bronny’s answer may therefore be the least dramatic and most accurate update available: LeBron will announce his next team when the family and his representatives are ready, not when the internet finds another suspicious upload.
