Zahara Marley Jolie has reportedly made her surname change official, dropping “Pitt” from her name after previously introducing herself without her father Brad Pitt’s surname in public.
According to TMZ, the 21-year-old daughter of Pitt and Angelina Jolie now officially goes by Zahara Marley Jolie. The reported change turns what had previously been a noticeable public choice into something more formal.
It also places Zahara alongside several of her siblings who have stopped using their father’s surname in some form, adding another chapter to the complicated public story surrounding the Jolie-Pitt family.
Zahara had already stopped using “Pitt” publicly
The development will not come entirely out of nowhere to anyone who has followed Zahara in recent years.
She previously attracted attention after introducing herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” during a sorority event at Spelman College, omitting “Pitt” from her name.
At the time, that introduction showed how Zahara was choosing to identify herself publicly, but it did not by itself establish that her name had formally changed. The latest report is significant because TMZ says the move has now been made official.
She is not the only sibling to move away from the Pitt surname
Zahara is one of six children shared by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, alongside Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
Her decision also fits a broader pattern within the family. According to the information reported around the change, Shiloh, Maddox and Vivienne have also stopped using their father’s surname in various contexts.
Those individual decisions inevitably attract attention because of the fame surrounding both parents, but they should not automatically be treated as identical statements. A surname can carry intensely personal meaning, and the available information does not establish that each sibling made their choice for precisely the same reasons.
Why making the change official matters
The distinction between using a different name socially and formally changing it is an important one.
Zahara had already made her preference visible when she introduced herself without “Pitt” at Spelman. If TMZ’s report is accurate, the latest development removes much of the ambiguity surrounding whether that was simply the name she preferred in that setting.
In my view, that is the most meaningful part of the story. Zahara’s earlier introduction could reasonably have been interpreted in several ways, but an official change makes the choice considerably more deliberate. What it does not do is tell outsiders exactly why she made it, and turning the decision into a definitive explanation of her relationship with her father would go beyond the information currently available.
The Jolie-Pitt children are increasingly making their own choices
Zahara is now 21, and the surname she uses is ultimately part of how she chooses to identify herself as an adult.
That reality can become slightly obscured when the parents involved happen to be two of the most famous actors in the world. Every alteration to a Jolie-Pitt name is likely to generate headlines precisely because the family has spent years under extraordinary public scrutiny.
For Zahara, however, the reported change is straightforward in its most concrete form: the name she had already begun using publicly is now said to be her official one.
She introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie before. Now, according to TMZ, that is officially the name she has chosen to keep.
