Anne Hathaway Keeps Her Baby’s Sex Private

CelebrityAnne Hathaway Keeps Her Baby’s Sex Private

Anne Hathaway is keeping her baby’s sex private, and one especially direct Disney fan learned that patience remains an available option. While accepting her Disney Legend honor at the D23 event in Anaheim on August 16, the pregnant actor was asked from the audience whether she was having a boy or a girl.

“Oh, just be patient,” Hathaway replied as she cradled her bump. Referring to her approaching due date, she added with a laugh, “You’re gonna find out in five minutes.”

As of August 18, no birth or public disclosure had followed. The mystery, somehow, survived another 48 hours.

Why Anne Hathaway has not shared the detail

Hathaway, 43, and her husband, Adam Shulman, already have two sons: Jonathan, born in 2016, and Jack, born in 2019. The couple knows the sex of their third child but has decided not to announce it.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hathaway gave guest host Anthony Anderson a straightforward answer: “We know, we’re not saying.”

When the audience applauded her decision, she thanked them and admitted that withholding the information made her feel uncomfortable. “I always feel so rude saying that,” she said. “I feel so bad.”

Anderson assured her that the choice was entirely hers, then immediately offered his own prediction: “It’s a boy.” Privacy was respected, followed by speculation on network television. A balanced arrangement, apparently.

ABC News and the Associated Press reported Hathaway’s pregnancy announcement on June 19. Neither identified the baby’s sex, and no credible report has since confirmed it.

Why fans think her clothes contain clues

Some online observers have treated Hathaway’s summer wardrobe as evidence, largely because she has worn blue several times. The theory gained momentum after the Los Angeles premiere of The End of Oak Street on August 9.

For that appearance, Hathaway wore an azure, bump-baring Prabal Gurung top with low-rise La Ligne jeans and red pointed Aquazzura heels. Blue clothing, of course, is not a medical announcement, but that has rarely discouraged internet detectives.

Hathaway also addressed a different strain of social media commentary after people questioned whether her bump looked real. On August 10, she posted a behind-the-scenes video from the premiere and wrote, “Fake hair, real bump.”

She invited followers to watch the event’s “Block Party chaos,” adding that her outfit was “literally” melting in the heat. The post settled the fake-bump chatter about as firmly as any celebrity Instagram caption can.

What the Disney Legend honor meant to her

The baby question arrived during a major career moment. Disney named Hathaway a Disney Legend, the company’s highest honor, alongside recipients including Dwayne Johnson, Bob Iger, Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Jonas Brothers.

Director David Frankel and Vogue editor Anna Wintour presented Hathaway with the award. The pairing carried obvious significance because Frankel directed her in The Devil Wears Prada, while Wintour has long been associated with the fashion world that inspired the film.

Hathaway became emotional during her acceptance speech. According to Variety, she said, “I’m one of the most insanely lucky people in the world,” while thanking the family that encouraged her interest in acting and imagination.

She also paid tribute to Shulman with a reference to The Princess Diaries, saying he “makes her foot pop.” In the 2001 film, Mia Thermopolis explains that a truly good kiss causes exactly that reaction. Disney nostalgia had already entered the building, so there was little reason to resist it.

How her Disney career reached this point

The ceremony marked 25 years since Hathaway made her film debut in The Princess Diaries. She returned for The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004, then played the White Queen in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Her connection to Mia is also moving forward rather than remaining safely stored in early-2000s nostalgia. Adele Lim, who is directing The Princess Diaries 3, told Variety that the sequel will show Mia as a queen “in her full power.” Lim said the story reflects how many viewers who grew up with the original films are now mothers themselves.

That timing gives Hathaway’s pregnancy and Disney honor an extra layer of relevance. The character who once struggled through royal lessons is returning as an established adult, while much of her original audience has acquired children, responsibilities and considerably less time for etiquette training.

Hathaway is also enjoying an unusually strong commercial year. Variety reported that her 2026 films had collectively passed $2 billion at the worldwide box office. The Devil Wears Prada 2 alone earned $691.4 million globally and recorded 15.2 million streaming views in five days.

For now, though, one detail remains unavailable. Hathaway will reveal her third child’s sex when she is ready, or when the baby arrives, whichever proves less patient.
