Mary Rivera, the retired missionary whose only screen role placed her inside the Marvel multiverse, has died at 82. She played Ned Leeds’ Filipino grandmother, known simply as Lola, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, turning a brief domestic interruption into one of the film’s most warmly remembered scenes.

Rivera died on April 15 in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to her obituary. A relative told TMZ that she suffered a stroke and was placed on life support. Her mortuary notice does not give a cause of death, saying only that she “passed away peacefully.”

News of her death reached national entertainment outlets nearly four months later. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser published a notice on May 31, and a celebration of her life was held June 6 at Trinity Central Oahu Church in Mililani.
