Rockstar Games says it is “nervous” about delivering GTA 6, which is understandable when every trailer frame is treated like evidence in an international investigation. Developers acknowledged the enormous expectations surrounding the game after Rockstar released an extended look at its next open-world blockbuster on Netflix.
The nearly 30-minute presentation followed a week of leaks attributed to Cyberleek. It offered a much broader look at Vice City, new gameplay systems and the story involving protagonists Jason and Lucia.
Among the details shown, players will not have to make Jason and Lucia romantically involved during a playthrough. The footage also provided more information about how the pair become connected with other characters across Leonida.
Why is Rockstar nervous about the game?
In an interview with IGN after the presentation, Rockstar developer Rob Nelson discussed the pressure facing the studio. He said the team is trying to improve on its previous work without losing the familiar qualities players expect from a Grand Theft Auto game.
“I try not to think about it. You’re aware of it, of course,” Nelson said. “But I think we just have to try and make something that we feel is innovating on what we’ve done previously, evolving it while still making it feel familiar.”
