Prime Video has put a date on the next trip to Middle-earth: The Rings of Power Season 3 will premiere on November 11, 2026. The announcement came Monday during Amazon’s annual Upfront presentation, where the streamer also released a new first-look image from the season.
That is a fairly long wait for viewers still sorting through the fallout of Season 2, but at least the destination is now clearer. The new chapter will move the story forward by several years and place the conflict with Sauron in a much more dangerous phase.
What Prime Video revealed about the premiere
Amazon MGM Studios framed the announcement as a sign of confidence in the fantasy series, which remains one of Prime Video’s biggest global swings. Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement that the show has carried “the scale, ambition, and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s biggest global series.”
He added that “the extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world” showed that the journey through Middle-earth still connects with audiences, and said that momentum has grown heading into the third season. A studio executive praising a major studio investment is not exactly a plot twist, but the message is clear: Amazon is still treating this series as a centerpiece.
Where the story goes in Season 3
According to the official synopsis, Season 3 jumps ahead several years from the events of Season 2. The story will take place during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, with the Dark Lord trying to create the One Ring.
