Nicola Roberts’ baby news arrived with the kind of quiet, intimate detail celebrity announcements rarely manage anymore: a few photos, a short caption, and no name reveal for the internet to inspect.
The Girls Aloud singer, 40, shared over the weekend that she and her partner, businessman and semi-professional footballer Mitch Hahn, had become parents to their first child. Their daughter was born “a couple of weeks ago,” after Roberts had kept the final stretch of her pregnancy largely private.
“Our beautiful baby girl is here,” Roberts wrote on Instagram, alongside photos including the newborn asleep on her chest and Hahn carrying the baby out of hospital.
“We haven’t stopped staring at her perfect little face or kissing her softest little head,” she added.
What Nicola Roberts shared about her daughter’s birth
Roberts said her baby arrived at 38 weeks, healthy and calm, weighing 6.5lbs.
“She arrived healthy and content a couple of weeks ago at 38 weeks weighing 6.5lbs and is thriving,” she wrote.
The singer’s caption ended with the hazy joy of a first-time parent who is getting very little sleep and somehow still calling it paradise.
“It’s heaven on earth with her and we can hardly believe she’s ours,” Roberts said.
The couple have not yet revealed their daughter’s name. Given that Roberts and Hahn have generally kept their relationship out of the glare, that is not exactly a plot twist.
The announcement quickly drew congratulations from friends, fans, and other familiar names from British pop culture. Michelle Keegan commented: “Awww congratulations to you both.” Perrie Edwards wrote: “Congratulations! Enjoy the baby bubble.”
Girls Aloud bandmate Nadine Coyle also sent her love, writing: “Congratulations!!!!!!!!! Sending so much love!!”
Her pregnancy included a difficult medical scare
The happy update follows Roberts’ recent revelation that she had surgery at 22 weeks to help protect the pregnancy.
In a social media post shared before the birth, she wrote that she had been “under instruction not to do much” since having the operation “to help keep baby in.”
She explained that reaching 34 weeks had brought real relief.
“Hitting that 34 week mark was a big relief. I now only have a few weeks left,” Roberts wrote. “Safe to say, this last bit is not the easiest is it?!”
She also reflected on the emotional split many expectant parents recognise: wanting physical comfort back, while knowing she would miss the closeness of pregnancy.
“In one breath, it will be nice to feel more comfortable again but I will also really miss my bump and having this tiny little thing in there,” she said.
That context makes her birth announcement land a little differently. It was not just a polished celebrity post. It was the public end point of a pregnancy that had included worry, waiting, and a great deal of being told to sit still, which is rarely anyone’s strongest skill.
How Roberts announced the pregnancy at Christmas
Roberts first revealed her pregnancy on Christmas Day, telling followers that she and Hahn were five months along.
She debuted her baby bump in a festive post and described the day as “the most magical Christmas Day sharing the most precious news with our families.”
“We’ve been keeping a secret. We are five months pregnant! We can’t wait to meet our little one in the spring,” she wrote at the time.
The announcement brought another wave of support from her circle. Kimberley Walsh, her Girls Aloud bandmate, commented: “Best news ever,” while Rochelle Humes, Rylan Clark, and Keisha Buchanan also sent messages of love.
In April, Roberts celebrated her baby shower, with Walsh among the guests. Afterward, Roberts said she was “savouring this last little bit as much as I can” because she did not “have long left.”
She was right. A few weeks later, she and Hahn were leaving hospital as a family of three.
Nicola Roberts and Mitch Hahn have kept things low-key
Roberts rose to fame in 2002 on Popstars: The Rivals, the reality show that formed Girls Aloud and helped make the group one of the defining British pop acts of the 2000s.
She has been dating Hahn since 2022. The pair were first seen publicly together at a Sir Elton John concert that year, though they have largely chosen not to turn their relationship into a permanent social media project.
They reportedly became engaged after two years together. The Sun reported that Hahn proposed during a holiday in the south of France in July 2024.
At the time, a source said: “Nicola has met her soulmate in Mitch. She couldn’t be happier.”
The same source noted that while the couple had been seen together publicly, they tended to keep their romance out of the spotlight and off social media.
That approach has continued into parenthood, at least so far. Roberts has shared enough to mark the moment, but not enough to make her newborn the internet’s newest full-time character.
The Girls Aloud family has grown again
Roberts is now the fourth mother among the surviving members of Girls Aloud.
Kimberley Walsh has three sons with her husband, Justin Scott. Nadine Coyle has a daughter, Anaíya, with American footballer Jason Bell. Cheryl shares her nine-year-old son, Bear, with her late former partner Liam Payne.
The group’s fifth member, Sarah Harding, died from breast cancer in September 2021 at the age of 39. Since then, the surviving members have remained close and have fundraised several times in her memory.
For fans who followed Girls Aloud from their reality TV beginnings through reunion projects, solo careers, grief, and adulthood in public, Roberts’ baby news carries more than the usual celebrity birth announcement weight. It is a small, bright family milestone for someone whose life has played out partly in front of an audience for more than two decades.
And for now, Roberts’ update is simple enough: her daughter is here, she is healthy, and her parents are clearly besotted.
