Netflix is opening the vault again, and the reaction has been less than unanimous. A Money Heist new season, or at least a new project inside the same criminally busy universe, appears to be in the works after the streamer shared a teaser pointing to more stories ahead.
The announcement, made on May 11, 2026, did not spell out whether viewers should expect a sixth season of the original Spanish crime drama, a character-led spin-off, or several connected projects. That ambiguity has done what ambiguity often does online: invited everyone to worry in public.
What has Netflix actually announced?
Netflix described the next phase as part of the expanding Money Heist universe, framing the original series as only one piece of a larger story.
In its teaser statement, the platform said: “Some stories start with the perfect strike. And this one changed everything.” It went on to reference the show’s journey “from the first heist for cash to the most artful robbery of the century,” including the Bank of Spain storyline and the gold that became central to the later seasons.
The streamer added: “But if there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that the revolution NEVER ends. From now on, this is mission control for everything in the Money Heist universe. If you want in on the next plan and don’t want to miss a single move from the gang, this is the place to be.”
It closed with: “The world of Money Heist continues on Netflix.”
That sounds expansive. It also sounds carefully non-specific, which is convenient when you want attention but not follow-up questions.
Why are some fans worried about season 6?
The main concern among viewers is simple: Money Heist already had an ending. For many fans, season 5 wrapped the story in a way that felt complete, and reviving the original group could risk undoing that emotional payoff.
On Reddit, several users questioned what a sixth season would even look like. One fan, IBuy3960, wrote: “I hope it’s not season 6… I’ll be okay with another good spin-off, but please let ending of season 5 be, it was good and doesn’t need continuation…”
Another user, Tboy19, pointed out the practical issue left by the finale, asking what the plot would be after the characters “received immunity in the end.” YB Phoenix was more blunt, saying they “know the show is milking it at this point.”
Mr Enigma added: “Milking the series I see. Let’s hope they don’t introduce plot holes upon plot-holes.”

Not everyone is against another job

That split reaction makes sense. Money Heist built a large international audience by mixing pressure-cooker crime plotting with big emotional swings, masked rebellion, and a cast of characters viewers followed through increasingly impossible plans. When a show creates that much attachment, fans often want more and also want it left alone. Both positions are inconveniently reasonable.
The most likely safe lane may be a spin-off that uses the broader world without forcing the original ending to do more work than it should.
The bigger Money Heist universe is already growing
Netflix has already shown interest in extending the franchise beyond the original series. The streamer’s latest language suggests that Money Heist is now being treated less like a single completed drama and more like an ongoing universe with room for related projects.
That does not confirm multiple spin-offs, but the wording strongly points in that direction. It also leaves open the possibility of character-focused stories, new crews, or different robberies tied to the tone and mythology of the original series.
For now, Netflix has not confirmed a release date, plot, cast, or whether this next chapter will be branded as season 6. The only clear message is that the franchise is continuing, and the fanbase is already debating whether that is a clever escape plan or a crime against a good ending.
