The Met Gala red carpet may last only minutes, but Law Roach is making clear that the work behind it is measured in months.

Roach, the longtime stylist behind many of Zendaya’s most dissected fashion moments, opened up during a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” on April 30 about how he approaches major events, including Anna Wintour’s annual benefit for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

“It usually starts 5 months in advance,” Roach wrote. “It all starts with what the designer says the client is going with. Once that's figured out, we just have a conversation about inspiration, and then I take it back to my team.”
