IO Interactive has confirmed that Khaby Lame will appear in 007 First Light, and the reveal has already given Bond fans something to debate before launch, which is apparently part of the modern entertainment package.
The cameo places Lame, the most-followed creator on TikTok, inside the upcoming Bond origin story. For some longtime fans, the bigger surprise is not just that he is in the game, but that IO Interactive chose to show the moment publicly before players could discover it themselves.
What Khaby Lame Does In The Game
Lame’s appearance leans directly into the expression and gesture that made him famous online. In his TikTok videos, he usually responds to needlessly complicated situations with a silent, exhausted look and a pointed gesture toward the obvious solution.
That is also how he appears in the Bond clip shared on Instagram. In the scene, James Bond walks up to Lame in Vietnam and asks for directions. Lame says nothing. Instead, he gestures toward a signpost that already gives Bond the answer.
It is a small joke, and not a subtle one. Bond, a man trusted with international espionage, apparently needs help reading a sign. Perhaps the martinis are not helping.
IO Interactive framed the cameo as part of the game’s broader travel-focused story.
“You will meet a familiar face in Vietnam,” the developer wrote. “Khaby Lame joins the cast of 007 First Light and is part of a globetrotting adventure as James Bond sets out to #EarnTheNumber. We worked closely with Khaby to get him scanned and design his outfit for this re-imagined origin story.”
Why The Cameo Reveal Raised Eyebrows
The reaction from some Bond fans has been mixed, mostly because a cameo like this is usually the kind of thing a player expects to stumble across. Revealing it before release removes that small discovery, even if it does give the marketing team a clean social media moment.
That appears to be the point. Video games industry analyst Daniel Ahmad responded to a fan questioning the decision and suggested that the reveal was likely aimed at a different audience than traditional Bond followers.
That reading makes sense. The game has already had a more standard marketing campaign, focused on Bond, action, and the idea of a young agent earning the famous 007 designation. Adding Lame to the conversation pulls in a large online audience that may not be following every trailer or preview.
It is a familiar strategy: take a legacy franchise, add a contemporary internet figure, then wait for two audiences to notice each other in the comments.
Khaby Lame’s Reach Goes Beyond TikTok
Lame’s inclusion is not as random as it may look from a Bond-only perspective. Over the past few years, he has moved well beyond short-form reaction videos.
He remains the most-followed user on TikTok, a level of visibility that makes him attractive to entertainment companies trying to reach younger and global audiences. His recent media appearances include:

The cameo reveal comes during a messy final stretch for the game’s rollout. Over the weekend, IO Interactive released part of the opening mission from 007 First Light after copies of the game leaked to the public days before launch.
The game’s early access launch begins May 26, with the full release set for May 27.
007 First Light is being pitched as a reimagined James Bond origin story, following the character before he fully becomes the agent audiences know. The phrase “Earn The Number” has been central to the game’s marketing, pointing to Bond’s path toward the 007 codename.
Now that path apparently includes asking Khaby Lame for directions in Vietnam. It is not the strangest thing Bond has survived, but it may be one of the most extremely online.
