Oasis at Glastonbury 2027 is officially not on the schedule, according to festival co-organiser Emily Eavis. Fans had spotted what looked like a convenient opening in the band's newly announced tour dates, because an empty weekend in a calendar is apparently all the evidence the internet requires.
Asked on social media by a user named Jimmy whether the festival had secured Oasis, Eavis replied: “Sorry Jimmy, not this time!” It was a brief answer, but not one that left much room for an encore.
What have Emily Eavis and Liam Gallagher said?
Eavis's response supports what Liam Gallagher had already told fans in August. Addressing reports that bookmakers had made Oasis favourites to headline the festival, he wrote on X that Glastonbury was “not happening”.
In a typically delicate follow-up, Gallagher told “all you croc wearing flag waving [people]” to calm down. The message was not especially diplomatic, though the central point was clear enough.
Oasis have performed at Glastonbury three times, appearing in 1994, 1995 and 2004. Their final set came during a troubled period for the band, and Liam has since spoken openly about how much he disliked that performance.
The possibility of a return gained traction after Oasis revealed a large 2027 touring schedule covering the United Kingdom, Ireland, mainland Europe and the United States. The dates include five concerts at Celtic Park in Glasgow, 11 at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, two at Slane Castle and four at Knebworth.
Knebworth carries particular weight in the band's history. Oasis played two huge concerts there in 1996, at the peak of their commercial dominance. The 2027 return will be rather less intimate, unless several hundred thousand people suddenly decide to stay home.
Who else could play Glastonbury 2027?
Tickets for Glastonbury are expected to go on sale in October, although the festival has yet to confirm its main performers.
Harry Styles, Fontaines D.C. and Sam Fender are among the names being discussed as possible acts. Stevie Wonder and Robbie Williams have also reportedly been linked with the Sunday afternoon Legends slot.
For now, none of those rumours amount to a confirmed booking. What has been confirmed is that the Gallagher brothers have other plans, despite the appealing hole that fans found in their diary.
Oasis announced the tour on Monday with characteristic restraint: “START THE CELEBRATIONS!!!! After a period of reflection ‘the most damaging pop cultural force in recent British history’ has declared itself fit for purpose and will once again return to lift the spirits of the people.”
The statement continued: “Come witness the fitness. It shall be a sight to behold.”
That sight will be available at stadiums across seven countries. It just will not be available at Worthy Farm.
