EA has added another result to its odd little trophy cabinet: the EA Sports FC World Cup prediction has correctly picked the tournament winner for the fifth consecutive time, after Spain beat Argentina in the 2026 final.
How EA called Spain before the tournament began
Before the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 11, Electronic Arts ran a full simulation of the competition using EA Sports FC 26. The publisher played through every group-stage match in the game, then used those simulated results to set up and run the knockout rounds.
EA promoted it with the confidence of data science and the methodology of a very expensive football video game. Still, it worked.
On June 6, several days before the real tournament began, the official EA Sports FC account on X predicted that Spain would win the World Cup. On Sunday, July 19, Spain did exactly that, defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final.
The match was decided in extra time by Ferran Torres, whose goal gave Spain their second World Cup title. Their first came in 2010, which is also where EA’s current run of successful predictions began.
Five correct World Cup winners in a row
EA’s streak now covers five men’s World Cup tournaments. The run started when the company correctly backed Spain in 2010, back when the series still carried the FIFA name.
Since then, the publisher’s simulations have also picked:
- Germany in 2014
- France in 2018
- Argentina in 2022
- Spain in 2026
That is a neat record, especially because the prediction is not simply a one-off guess for the final. EA simulated a full tournament route across all 48 teams in the expanded 2026 competition, which leaves plenty of room for the virtual version of football to do what football usually does: make everyone look foolish.
Instead, EA gets to enjoy being right again. For a company that has spent years hearing complaints about ratings, gameplay balance, and whether someone’s acceleration stat is a personal insult, this is probably a more pleasant inbox.
What EA said after Spain’s win
After the final, the EA Sports FC account on X marked the result with a message leaning into the streak.
“We called it. You played it. Spain made it a reality,” the account wrote.
It added: “Five predictions in a row, and Spain lifted the trophy 11 million+ times across EA Sports FC 26 and EA Sports FC Mobile. Congratulations on your second star.”
That 11 million figure refers to the number of times players had already taken Spain to the title inside EA Sports FC 26 and EA Sports FC Mobile. In other words, the real-life squad caught up with a very large number of living-room and phone-screen champions.
For Spain supporters, the actual win matters far more than the simulation. For EA, the result gives the franchise another easy marketing point at a useful time, with its next annual football release expected to be announced soon.
Why the prediction is more impressive than Madden’s Super Bowl run
EA has another active sports-prediction streak through Madden NFL. Earlier in 2026, the publisher correctly predicted the Super Bowl winner for the third year in a row, although its broader record with that series has been less consistent.
The World Cup streak is harder to shrug off. A Super Bowl prediction centers on one match. EA’s football simulation had to account for group-stage standings, knockout matchups, and the path of dozens of national teams.
Of course, this does not mean EA Sports FC has solved football. It means a simulation happened to match reality five tournaments running, which is either impressive, statistically strange, or exactly the kind of thing EA will mention whenever possible.
The prediction also arrives after the franchise’s major rebrand. The series was previously known as FIFA, but EA moved to EA Sports FC after its licensing deal with FIFA ended. FIFA had reportedly sought $1 billion for continued use of its name.
One consequence is that EA no longer has the rights to use official World Cup branding in the same way. Its replacement mode uses the off-brand title The World’s Game, which is accurate enough, if not exactly subtle.
EA Sports FC 27 is expected soon
EA has not yet announced the launch date for EA Sports FC 27, but an unveiling is expected soon.
According to leaks, the next entry is planned for September 25. The reported platforms include:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X/S
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox One
- Nintendo Switch
If that date holds, EA will head into its next reveal with a tidy piece of real-world validation attached. Spain won the trophy. EA called it early. And millions of players had already rehearsed the ending before Ferran Torres made it official.
